Employment
Law

Our employment lawyers advise employees on all aspects of Irish employment law, from recruitment to retirement, engagement to unfair dismissal.

Internal
Support

We counsel employees on all aspects of their rights throughout the employment relationship, ensuring employers follow best practices and procedures.

Dispute
Resolution

We have a strong track record of successfully representing our employee clients before the Workplace Relations Commission and Labour Court.

Settlement
Agreements

We have successfully negotiated numerous exit agreements on behalf of employees, achieving the best possible outcome with minimal exposure.

Set Clear
Objectives

Your employment solicitor should discuss your expectations and tell you whether they think they are realistic. It should be important to your employment solicitor that you understand at all times what is happening with your matter. To help prevent any confusion or stress on your part, your employment solicitor should give you general information and explain any procedures regarding your matter as it progresses.

Give Clear
Instructions

You can help your employment solicitor to help you by giving them clear instructions, accurately advising us of all facts relevant to your matter, keeping them informed of all developments relating to the matter, letting them know if there are any important time limits of which they should be aware, dealing promptly with their queries or requests for information, making yourself available to attend meetings or proceedings, and advising if you will be unavailable at any time.

Timeline
Expectations

Due to the nature of the work employment solicitors undertake, you will appreciate that it is not always possible to give an exact timescale or definitive date by which time your matter shall have completed. However, your employment solicitor should keep you appraised of all developments. Employment disputes can very often pivot around the date provided by the Workplace Relations Commission for an adjudication.

Excluded
Services

In many instances, an employee may have a number of separate claims against their employer. It is important to be precise in defining what your employment solicitor is responsible for, and what he or she is not managing. Furthermore, in contentious employment law matters, an award often or settlement often requires independent advice from an accountant or tax advisor, which your employment solicitor should refer you to.

Fee
Expectations

At the beginning of your matter, your employment solicitor should provide you information, in writing, about their fees and other expenses that may be incurred.
Outside of fixed-rate charges, most employment solicitors charge an hourly rate in relation to your matter.
In the event of you varying your instructions, this may increase the time required to be spent on your matter or increase costs.

Calculating
Costs

Although your employment solicitor should provide a reasonable prediction of costs, based on the information available at the time, much will depend on the complexity and novelty of the issues involved in the legal work, the skill or specialized knowledge relevant to the matter which your employment solicitor has applied to the matter, and the time and labour that your solicitor has reasonably expended on the matter.

Data, Privacy
& GDPR

Your personal data may be used to provide you with legal advice and business services, for administration and billing purposes, and sending or providing you with access to legal and regulatory information. They may disclose your personal data to third party recipients acting on your or our behalf, for the purposes of providing legal advice and business service. Your employment solicitor should take all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and privacy of all information provided.

Good
Communication

The engagement letter governs the relationship between the parties, unless they agree otherwise, in writing. Where these standard terms are varied, your employment solicitor will advise you of this in writing and allow you to accept or reject those proposed changes. In general, the relationship is governed under Irish law.

Good communication between both parties will always guarantee the best possible outcome.
